The Pirkanmaa Film Centre was established in 1982 by seven local film clubs and the University of Tampere Student Union to nurture and promote film culture in the Tampere region. The office of the Film Centre is located at Kehräsaari in the heart of Tampere, alongside its crown jewel, Arthouse Cinema Niagara.

The Film Centre organizes screenings at its own cinema and in the Tampere region, offers education, consultation and advice on matters pertaining to film culture and history, distributes artistically ambitious documentary, fiction and short films, and co-operates with various cultural and educational organizations and bodies.

Quality films at Arthouse Cinema Niagara

You can see the best films in town at the Film Centre’s own cinema, Arthouse Cinema Niagara. The Cinema is situated at Kehräsaari, in the same building as the Film Centre's offices. Niagara has 128 seats and is open seven nights a week. The Cinema was outfitted with a 2K digital projector in 2011, but both 35mm and 16mm screening equipment have also been preserved. Besides regular weekly screening programmes, Niagara offers a wide range of special screenings and events. In 2015, Arthouse Cinema Niagara screened a total of 270 films, with up to 40 000 admissions. The Film Centre is also equipped for outdoor and pop-up screenings.
Arthouse Cinema Niagara is available for booking for private screenings, meetings and events. The lobby restaurant 931 is operated by an independent entrepreneur and separate booking may be required (please confirm upon enquiry).
